Our Thyroid, Neck & Carotid Scan is a comprehensive ultrasound assessment of the thyroid gland, neck soft tissues, cervical lymph nodes, salivary glands and carotid arteries. This scan provides a detailed review of thyroid structure, blood flow, neck lumps, lymph nodes, anterior neck soft tissues and both carotid arteries using advanced ultrasound and Doppler technology.
It is suitable for patients with thyroid swelling, suspected nodules, persistent neck lumps, swallowing discomfort, salivary gland symptoms, fatigue, unexplained weight changes, cardiovascular risk factors or those requiring a GP-recommended carotid Doppler assessment. The scan is performed in the comfort of your home by an experienced sonographer, with a clear and structured medical report provided on the same day.
What This Scan Covers
This scan assesses the thyroid gland, including its size, appearance and blood flow. It checks for thyroid nodules, cysts, solid lumps and other changes. If nodules are identified, they may be assessed using the TI-RADS classification system. The scan also reviews the area around the parathyroid glands and looks for features that may suggest thyroid inflammation, such as autoimmune thyroiditis.
The scan examines the lymph nodes in the neck, assessing their size, shape and internal appearance. It helps identify features that may suggest reactive changes due to infection or inflammation and reviews lymph nodes throughout the main neck levels (I–VI). Changes associated with thyroid or salivary gland conditions can also be assessed.
The parotid and submandibular salivary glands are examined for swelling, inflammation, duct changes, stones or possible blockages that may cause pain or enlargement.
The scan evaluates the soft tissues of the neck, including skin and tissues beneath the skin, to assess lumps, cysts, lipomas (fatty lumps), benign soft tissue lesions and other abnormalities. The thyroid cartilage region and front structures of the neck are also reviewed.
A Doppler assessment of the carotid arteries evaluates blood flow through the main arteries supplying the brain. It assesses artery wall thickness, blood flow patterns, plaque formation and any narrowing (stenosis) if present. Both right and left carotid arteries are compared.
