How This Scan Is Performed
A transabdominal pelvic and urinary tract ultrasound is performed first.
This uses the ultrasound probe on the lower abdomen and requires a comfortably full bladder, which helps lift the bowel and improves visibility of the uterus, ovaries, kidneys and bladder.

In some cases, a transvaginal (internal) pelvic ultrasound may be recommended for higher‑resolution imaging of the uterus, endometrium and ovaries.
A transvaginal scan is safe, optional, and performed only with your consent.
It does not require a full bladder.

Using both approaches when appropriate ensures the most accurate and comprehensive assessment of pelvic and urinary tract health.
