ComfortScan provides a specialist Groin & Inguinal Hernia Ultrasound Scan for adults experiencing groin pain, lumps, swelling or suspected hernias. This scan also includes assessment of the abdominal wall, allowing detection of inguinal, femoral, paraumbilical, epigastric and incisional hernias — all performed in the comfort of your home.

What this scan covers

How This Scan Is Performed
This is a targeted ultrasound examination based on your symptoms and clinical history. We assess the exact groin or abdominal wall area where you have pain, swelling or a lump, rather than scanning every region routinely. This ensures the scan remains clinically appropriate and focused on the problem you are experiencing. If your symptoms suggest more than one possible hernia site, we will examine all relevant areas during the appointment.

Reasons for Having a Groin & Inguinal Hernia Ultrasound Scan
Adults commonly book this scan when experiencing:

Groin Lump or Bulge
Lump that appears when standing
Lump that disappears when lying down
Lump after lifting or exercise
Lump that increases with coughing or straining

Groin Pain or Discomfort
Sharp or dull groin pain
Pain during lifting or movement
Pain radiating to the thigh or lower abdomen
Pain after gym or sports activity

Suspected Inguinal Hernia
Lump in the inguinal canal
Discomfort when bending or twisting
Symptoms worsening over time

Suspected Femoral Hernia
Lump or pain below the groin crease
Symptoms more common in women
Tenderness near the upper thigh
Abdominal Wall Hernias (Included in This Scan)

This scan also assesses:
Umbilical hernia
Paraumbilical hernia
Epigastric hernia
Incisional hernia
Post‑surgical abdominal wall defects

These hernias often present as:
A lump near the belly button
A bulge along the midline
A lump near surgical scars
Pain when lifting or straining
Post‑Surgery or Post‑Injury Follow‑Up
Monitoring after hernia repair
Reassurance after groin injury
Assessment of persistent symptoms

General Reassurance
Many adults choose this scan when symptoms are unclear, intermittent or worrying — or when they simply want a safe, non‑invasive groin assessment without waiting lists.

What This Scan Includes
This focused hernia scan assesses:
Inguinal canal
Femoral canal
Abdominal wall integrity
Presence of hernia sac or defect
Dynamic movement with Valsalva and coughing
Soft tissue lumps or swelling

Technical Limitations
In individuals with a higher BMI, ultrasound penetration can be reduced, which may limit the clarity of groin and abdominal wall visualisation. Our sonographers will always attempt full assessment, but in some cases the scan may be technically limited due to body habitus.
