How This Scan Is Performed 
This is a targeted ultrasound examination based on your symptoms and clinical history. We assess the exact groin or abdominal wall area where you have pain, swelling or a lump, rather than scanning every region routinely. This ensures the scan remains clinically appropriate and focused on the problem you are experiencing. If your symptoms suggest more than one possible hernia site, we will examine all relevant areas during the appointment.

Technical Limitations
In individuals with a higher BMI, ultrasound penetration can be reduced, which may limit the clarity of groin and abdominal wall visualisation. Our sonographers will always attempt full assessment, but in some cases the scan may be technically limited due to body habitus.
