Our Growth Scan provides a structured assessment of your baby’s growth and wellbeing during the third trimester. It is designed to give you a clear update on your baby’s measurements, estimated weight, growth percentile, amniotic fluid and position.
This scan includes full fetal measurements. If you only require a general wellbeing check without measurements, please book the Pregnancy Reassurance Scan. Please have your previous NHS or private ultrasound report available, as growth assessment requires comparison with earlier measurements.

Important Information
This is a non-diagnostic private ultrasound scan and does not replace NHS antenatal care, medically indicated growth scans or assessment by your maternity team.
If you experience reduced or changed fetal movements, please contact your maternity unit immediately. A private ultrasound scan should not be used as a substitute for urgent assessment, as maternity services may need to assess your baby’s heart rate using CTG as well as other clinical assessments. This is consistent with the guidance provided by Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.
No special preparation is required.
You do not need a full bladder.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting two-piece clothing to allow easy access to your abdomen.
If you have your maternity notes or previous ultrasound reports available, please have them ready for reference.
We recommend arriving well hydrated and allowing approximately 30–45 minutes for your appointment.
Please note: This scan complements, but does not replace, your routine NHS maternity care.
If possible, please have your previous ultrasound report ready. Growth scans rely on comparing current measurements with earlier scans.

What gestational age is this scan suitable for?
This scan is available from 24 to 41 weeks, offering reassurance in late pregnancy.
Does this scan replace my NHS growth scans?
No. This is a non‑diagnostic wellbeing scan and does not replace NHS growth or screening appointments.
Will I receive a report?
Yes. A structured medical report is provided the same day or within 24 hours.
Can this scan detect abnormalities?
No. This is a non‑diagnostic scan focused on growth, position and wellbeing. However, if the sonographer find anything unusual she will put the issue in the report for GP and midwife review.
Can this scan check baby’s position?
Yes. Baby’s position (head down, breech or transverse) is included.
Do I need a full bladder?
No. A full bladder is not required for this scan.
Is this scan safe?
Yes. Ultrasound is safe throughout pregnancy and does not use radiation.
