How to Prepare for Your Scan

For Babies and Young Children ( 1 month plus)

No fasting required

Encourage normal feeding and hydration

Keep comfort items (toy, blanket, dummy)

A full bladder is helpful but not essential

Nappies can remain on unless bladder assessment is needed

For Older Children (5+)

Drink 300–500 ml of water 30–45 minutes before the scan

Aim for a comfortably full bladder

Avoid emptying the bladder unless uncomfortable

Continue regular medication as normal

If Your Child Cannot Hold Their Bladder  --No problem — the scan will still be performed.

Paediatric kidneys can be assessed clearly even without bladder filling.
