This scan provides a comprehensive ultrasound assessment of the upper abdomen, bowel and pelvis in one appointment.
The abdominal component includes evaluation of the liver, gallbladder, biliary tree, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and abdominal aorta. The pelvic component assesses the uterus, endometrium and ovaries using transabdominal and transvaginal views for full anatomical detail
Please drink 1 litre of water over the hour before your appointment, finishing at least 30 minutes before the scan, and avoid emptying your bladder until after the examination. Please also avoid eating for 8 hours before the scan to optimise abdominal assessment; you may continue to drink plain water during this time. Your scan will be performed by a senior female sonographer
