A comprehensive ultrasound assessment of the upper abdomen, urinary tract and appendix. This scan examines the liver, gallbladder and biliary tree, pancreas, spleen, abdominal aorta, both kidneys, bladder and appendix to help investigate abdominal pain, infection, inflammation, gallstones, kidney problems or other abdominal concerns.
This scan may be recommended to investigate:
Do not eat for 6 hours before your appointment (small sips of water are allowed).
Drink about 1 litre of water approximately 1 hour before the scan and do not empty your bladder until the examination is complete. Continue taking your regular medications unless advised otherwise by your healthcare professional.
This preparation ensures the gallbladder is adequately distended for assessment while the bladder is full to allow optimal visualisation of the urinary tract and appendix where possible.
This scan is carried out by a senior female sonographer. If you would prefer a male practitioner, please let us know at the time of booking so we can arrange this for you.
